Our Discipleship Pathway
The journey of discipleship to Jesus is not linear, it’s cyclical. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to following Jesus. This pathway is simply a way of finding yourself within this family we call Hillside and an invitation to move deeper into our community. The idea is for a person to move at their own pace, in the way that matches their journey, and in the timing that fits their limits.
Our pathway includes four parts:

1. Welcome
SUNDAY GATHERINGS
Sunday Gatherings are the primary way we gather as a church to worship together, learn the Scriptures, pray for one another, and create space to hear from the Spirit. It is in these moments together that we collectively embody Jesus and his kingdom.
NEWCOMER’S MEET & GREET
Newcomer’s Gatherings are short after-service receptions where we briefly introduce individuals to the Hillside story, to what we believe, and our rhythms of life as a church family.
ALPHA
The Alpha Course is an open and informal conversation about life, spirituality, and the person of Jesus without judgement or pressure. We host the Alpha Course regularly as a means for people to explore these themes without the pressured atmosphere that usually comes with these conversations.
NEXT GENERATION MINISTRY
We offer Sunday programs for our children, and we host weekly youth gatherings/events as a place for middle and high-schoolers to connect, explore, and grow in faith.
2. Settle In
BAPTISM
Our Baptism Class provides an opportunity to talk through the new identity, new family, and new mission that we have in Jesus. We typically offer the class and the opportunity to be baptized a few times each year..
SPIRITUAL FORMATION COURSES
Spiritual Formation Courses are regular class opportunities that discusses the practices of Jesus and his invitation to be disciples or apprentices. In these courses we will explore the key spiritual practices, as well as what it means to abide in Jesus, transform our lives, and carry out his Kingdom vision for the world. (Sabbath, Prayer, Fasting, Solitude, Scripture, Community, Simplicity, Generosity, Hospitality, Mission, Spiritual Gifts). We are partnering with Practicing The Way, an organization that facilitates training in these areas.
DISCOVER HILLSIDE

3. Family
LIFE GROUPS
Life Groups are the way we gather during the week to be the people of Jesus in our city. We often eat together, pray for one another, and share life together. It is in these ordinary rhythms of life that we become more like Jesus. Where possible, we love to put people together that live in the same neighbourhood. As we live and work in proximity to each other, we are able to partner in the mission of God to see his Kingdom come in our cities as it is in heaven.
4. Life Together
We feel that life at Hillside Church is fully realized when we participate in five key rhythms. Through these commitments, we are ordering our lives around the way of Jesus and allowing ourselves to be transformed, both as individuals and as a church family. We invite you to partner with us in this life as disciples of Jesus.
LIFE GROUPS
Hillside Life Groups are the way we gather during the week to be the people of Jesus in our neighbourhoods. This is how we practice the way of Jesus together.
PRACTICE THE WAY OF JESUS
To “practice the way of Jesus” is to adopt the lifestyle of Jesus, to put his teachings into practice in all aspects of your life. As we live this way, we are transformed from the inside out.
GATHER ON SUNDAYS
Sundays are the primary day we gather as a church to worship together, learn from Scripture, pray for one another, and create space to hear from the Holy Spirit.
SERVE
As the people of Jesus, we believe we are called to serve one another and serve our larger community. Through sacrificial love to others we are actively participating in the Kingdom of God.
GIVE
We dream of becoming a church marked by radical generosity. More than 10% of every dollar given goes directly to supporting global outreach work both globally and locally.
